My Story 📖

This idea is 20 years on the "back burner". A long time ago I had a cute key chain, that was a rotund, little vampire, and I thought it would be funny to have a cooking app for kids and call him "Count Spatula". I had no idea that the name had been used in old movies and other places. My Count is not a scary vampire, but a friendly home cook, tinkering around in his castle, cooking for his family. I looked around and could not find an actual app to help kids with real cooking. Everything is a splashy video game. There are blogs with ideas for kids, and don't get me wrong, I like scrolling through someone's cooking blog and reading their stories, but kids don't! This app has no wordy blogs, no ads and no links to go buy my spoon online. So I hope the $10 is not too steep for a no-nonsense, (well, ok... a little nonsense) app. My hope is that this basic, little app is easy for kids, and that they start to try stuff in the kitchen. Maybe adults will too. With today's busy world, cooking is hard. Sometimes people feel like it is just too hard to do the fancy stuff they see on TV. Well it does not have to be fancy to taste good. You shouldn't need a bunch of complicated ingredients to make simple meals. This is for kids, but adults definitely can learn too. Maybe you can cook just fine, maybe you will learn right along with your child. Either way, that's OK! Just have fun.

I was raised on the farm in Alberta, Canada.. Still on the farm, I am a mom and a wife and have been cooking for 40 years. My Mom, Mom-in-Law, Grannies, Aunts, and all sorts of relatives inspired me to cook. Mostly simple, nutritious meals that were quick, because life on the farm was busy. Today, the Cartoonist, Designer, Cook and Computer Nerd in me all came together to create this app. I hope you enjoy it. But mostly, I hope the kids enjoy it because when kids feel like they have contributed and accomplished something big, they feel special. So don't worry about the mess and lets teach the kids to cook! Because we always need to EAT!!

& ...YES... LICK THOSE SPOONS!

My hope is to keep adding content as time goes by, so keep checking in as we grow. But if you are like me, you find your favorites and keep on making those. So keep the "Count" handy, try our grocery list, converters and Mummy helper but most of all, have fun. Who knows, maybe some day the kids will be in charge of the kitchen while you enjoy the benefits of this fun experience, and one day, when they leave your "castle" they will be armed with one of the most important life skills that you could ever give them, -Cooking.

When the kids ask what a "Count" is, because we don't all know the "Count-You-Know-Who" story, tell them a "Count" was a special helper to a King, long ago, who helped run a part of that country. So let your little "Count" help run the kitchen.

Oh... sorry.. there actually is a game on here too.. I couldn't resist.
